August 5, 2013 - Cross Lake

August Long Weekend

Brian and headed out to Cross Lake Provincial Campground.  A very nice campground just north of Westlock, AB.  It's really a boating lake with recreation boating (tubing, water skiing, and the like) and fishing boats (lots of fish being caught) and kayaking and canoeing.  The lake was zooming all weekend long.

We kept it pretty simple - reading, playing games and walking.  It really was weird without Faith being there, but we talked about it a lot, and reminisced about all the good times we've had camping together as a family through the years.

The view from the back of our campsite:

And just to keep life interesting, Brian suggested we walk around the lake to the otherside where there would be a tenting-only site.  He said it wasn't far.  At least the trail was nice and the forest was beautiful (never mind the bear warning signs all over the place).  By the time we got back to our campsite we had walked 8 km!  I just have to remember to look at a map before we go - the last time Brian said we were going on a short walk was in Juneau, Alaska, and that turned out to be 5 miles!!
