Contemporary Showcase Gala

November 30, 2012

A week earlier Faith played in the Contemporary Non-Competitive Festival in Edmonton, AB.
As a result of her performance she was given the privilege to play for the Festival Gala evening
at Muttart Hall in the Alberta College.

She played the contemporary piece:
Kingston Mills Locks - by Martha Hill Duncan a Contemporary Composer.

Faith has been encouraged to email Ms. Duncan and tell her what she liked about this piece
and also send her a copy of this performance.

Faith was also very encouraged and surprised to receive an award rewarding her
on her firm grasp of the Contemporary Style of Canadian Music.

Here is the youtube link to Faith playing in the Gala which Brian recorded:

Farm Fair 2012 Triple Date

Thanks for taking these candid shots on your phone, Faith.  We had a tonne (pun intended) of fun watching the Heavy Horse Pull Competition.

On the way to the pull Diane decided that instead of eating out she'd bring a lunch to eat on the way... well you might call it a lunch - but it was decadent!!  Especially for all 7 of us in the Suburban.  She started off by handing each of us a paper plate with Egg Salad on Rye Bread with Pickled Carrot sticks on the side.  Then she asked if we wanted dessert.  I'm thinking maybe a piece of fruit.  She opens her cooler again and passes around apple crisp with ice cream on paper plates with spoons!  What a hoot! yum!

When we got to the horse pull, Mom and Ron were there already and had saved us all some great seats.  The Horse Pull started off SO slow but it was interesting to watch the interaction between the owners and their horses.  Later on, Diane came up with the idea that we should each choose a team to cheer for.  That made it much more interesting to watch... and by the end we could not believe how much weight a team of horses could pull!
Thanks Mom, for keeping us all fed with popcorn and water - It was great that you and Ron were there.  Faith got a real kick out of texting with you during the competition!  Made it fun for her too!

Somewhere North of Grande Cache

We thought we'd never arrive at the waterfalls, but finally we got there ... it was quite the trek up and we were pooped! But on the way back down I turned around and snapped this lovely.

Mountain Mushrooms

While on our summer holidays, Faith and I took a quiet walk through the thick forest behind our campsite.
The plants and mushrooms were just amazing.
Here are some of the best pics put in a collage.

When I Look at You...

"When I look at you, I see forgiveness,
I see the truth
You love me for who I am
like the stars hold the moon
Right there where they belong
And I know I'm not alone"

I found these lyrics online... they said what I feel.  Apparently it's from a song sung by Miley Cyrus.

Beautiful Fall Picnic

Islet Lake Staging Area about 26 kms from our home.

When the fall days are warm, the leaves are turning colour, and you know what's just around the corner, you have to take time to get out and enjoy the beauty of the season.  Our friend Diane came along with us and brought her guitar too, which gave her and Brian time to work through some songs for Sunday since they are leading the singing.  For me it was beautiful to sit next to the fire and worship.  You could hear the coyotes howling, (the occasional gunshot), but mostly it was just quiet with the guitars strumming, fire crackling, and voices lifted in praise to our Father.   I was struck once again by the beauty He creates for us to enjoy.

A few pics from our weekend

View from the top of the 3 Hills near Three Hills.  It was very hazy due to the 60% humidity.  Usually you can see about 250 km from up here and see the mountains.

Dry Island Buffalo Jump.  It was too hazy to get any really good pictures of the Coulee but here is Brian refreshing himself with the lay of the land.

As we were nearing Three Hills we could not believe the amount of wind turbines there were... all in all we heard they put up 52 of them.  They were all turning - it really has changed the landscape around there.
