Valley of Fire State Park
Chillaxing... well actually it's me setting the timer on the camera and then running like a crazy woman to my spot and faking a very relaxed look while Brian counts to 10.
(p.s. yes I am flushed- it was hotter than a firecracker out there)

Brian saw a slight movement out of the corner of his eye, and noticed this little guy.
He was so camouflaged I'm surprised we could even see him!

I nearly died on the hike to this spot. It was so incredibly hot I thought I was going to spontaneously combust! Seriously. But the site was quite something to behold. The sun was getting low in the sky and the shadows just added more beauty to the scene.
Then we broke the law.
I knew I could not hike all the way back (we did not take water because we had no idea how long the hike was going to be) and besides, this part of the park closed at sunset. Brian could see the road from this high vantage point and so we decided to take a shortcut back! It's a big no!no! to go off of the trail....
we live dangerously.

The cacti were blooming! They honestly looked like roses. Pink, yellow, maroon. Brian stopped the car several times and pulled over so I could get some pictures.

Couldn't help myself. I just love the old abandoned buildings along the way, and I enjoy how the construction changes depending on the area you are in.

Thanks to my patient husband who will always stop the car, pull off the road and even 4x4 down a wash with our rented Ford Fusion so I can get the shots I want!!
